DFRC AGM 18 October at the Oaklands

The AGM is to be held on Monday, 18th October, 7.30 pm at The Oaklands Hotel, Gorstage CW8 2SU.

The prize giving and a hot pot supper will follow a short round up of the clubs activity. Tickets are remarkably good value at £7.50! It is a very sociable evening and we encourage you to bring along friends who might like to see what the club is all about before joining.

For tickets send a SAE with cheque made payable to DFRC to Ann Brazier, Woodlands, Hole House Lane, Little Leigh, CW8 4RY or contact any committee member. We are not selling tickets on the door as we need to confirm numbers for catering.

Please will winners for the 2009 season return clean trophies to a Committee member as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you at the Oaklands.

Combined Training August Forest Gate Farm

This was again held at Forest Gate Farm, Norley on 22 August 2010 and was the sixth year this popular event has been run with two levels, a BE 90 test with Novice show jumping (75cm) and a BE100 test with Intermediate height show jumping (90cm). The weather was very kind to us and the ground was perfect for the dressage and Richard Carruthers built quite a challenging show jumping course with only 3 clears at the Intermediate height.

Unfortunately Helen Platt had quite a nasty fall after her horse did a very big jump unseating her, but the first aid people were fantastic and following a check up in hospital, Helen was back in the saddle in a couple of days and raring to go again. We wish Helen and Opal all the best at HOYs next month (and to member Caroline Woods on Indie who has also qualified for the same Riding Club Horse class).

Well done to everyone and many thanks to those who helped set up and steward on the day. Unfortunately we were let down by several helpers and very nearly had to cancel but several committee members stood in at the last minute. Also thanks to those members who stayed to help put the jumps away and poo pick!

If there is sufficient demand, we will look at doing a lower height of jumps say 60cm next year, so do let the committee know if you think this is a good idea. Another idea is for a family class where mother or father could do the dressage and son or daughter could do the jumping (on the same horse).

Area 20 dressage 11th July.

An early start , and a long drive proved to be very worthwhile for the team members who competed in Anglesey on 11th July . Madelaine Davies had a wonderful day. By winning her first test, which was a Medium, she ensured a trip to Lincoln and a very big cup which we tend to think of as Delamere’s, having won it in the past so often by Jo or Clare. She then won her elementary test for the open team. Other team members also put in very good tests. Clare was second, Holly third, and Mary (who was the discount score )was fourth. These excellent results would often be good enough to win a team competition, but East Cheshire were in amazing form. They won 3 tests and were 2nd in their fourth and so were unassailable. Our team finished second and all the team were delighted with their horses. The same team later competed in the Riding Test where they finished fourth. Holly was 6th ,Madelaine 7th, Mary 8th and Clare 10th. Our special thanks to Ali Arden who came with us and did her area duty for the team.
