Winter dressage 2011
Competitions will be held at Forest Gate Farm, Norley. Please can we remind everyone to remove droppings (this applies to the carpark, warming up and dressage arenas) and also to ensure that the gates are kept closed. These are really important as they are conditions of our continuing usage of these excellent, and local, facilities! Due to a shortfall in takings at the last 2 competitions we are no longer able to provide refreshments but we will provide an urn with boiling water and it will be up to individuals to bring along cups, milk, coffee, tea etc.
Competitions are run for DFRC members, however if there are insufficient entries then non-members will be allowed to enter at a fee of £10.
*Please note that walk and trot tests are restricted to partnerships that have not competed at novice level in any dressage competition , or been placed 1st to 3rd in any prelim competition.

Dressage Rules
Horse/rider combinations (juniors and seniors) may compete in Prelim classes until they accumulate 35 points. Non-members who win twice must then compete HC.
What to wear
Black, navy or tweed jackets with light coloured jods or breeches. Gloves compulsory. Tie or stock. Leather gaiters must be same colour as boots. Spurs should be metal and point down. Whips not allowed for Horse Trials or Championships. Hats as general DFRC rules. No jewellery or earrings allowed.
Horse’s Equipment
Snaffle bridle compulsory to Elementary when a double bridle is permitted. Flash, drop or cavesson nosebands obligatory – (except Horse Trials where a grackle is OK). Bits to conform to British Dressage Rulebook. No bitguards or martingales allowed, breastplate OK. No boots or bandages for test but OK for warming up.
Working In
Pass left to left, if walking use the inside track so others can pass. Do not tickle other horses if you have a long dressage whip! Leave plenty of room between you and the horse in front and circle away where necessary.
Riding the Test
Callers are permitted (except for Horse Trials). Be ready before the previous horse has completed their test and make yourself known to the steward. As soon as the previous horse has left the arena you may ride around the outside. If there is insufficient room you can work in inside the arena then start your test from inside or outside.
Do not start your test until you hear the horn or bell. You should then commence within 60 seconds. You may not use your voice but do breathe!
When saluting take the reins and whip in one hand, lower the free hand and nod your head to the judge. Smiling to the judge and patting your horse is allowed when you have finished your test.
* Rule books are available from the British Riding Clubs' Office, British Horse Society, Stoneleigh Deer Park, Stoneleigh, Kenilworth, Warwickshire. CV8 2XZ.
