Area 20 2012 competition entries

To enter teams we have to provide helpers for all events; this has proved difficult in the past. To compete in an area 20 event you must either provide a named helper for the day or commit to help yourself at another area 20 competition. The nomination must be done when you enter. If you withdraw at the last moment you will still be expected to provide the helper or attend yourself. We hope you agree this is a fair system & that you will continue to support the club.

Flu vaccinations- You need an up to date vaccination record to compete in area 20 competitions. This will be checked by the chef dequipe before the competition & by the area 20 officials at the competition. Remember you should carry a copy of your horses passport when you travel your horse.

Area 20 SJ November

The Winter Novice Show Jumping Area Qualifier was held at Southview on a very pleasant Sunday in November. The Delamere Forest Riding Club team consisted of Carrie Childs on Boadicca, Clare Aldridge on Spider, Gareth Warbuton on Grace and Sophie Chambers on Herbie. Both Gareth and Sophie had managed last minute changes of horse as their designated mounts were unable to compete (thank you to Sophie Warburton for lending Herbie).

Carrie had the misfortune to be the very first competitor of the day but managed a good clear as did the other team members so we finished the round with a zero score – as did many other teams. In the second round Clare and Sophie did good clears but the two mares, Grace and Bo, both decided they knew what they were doing and anyway did someone say it was timed? Both went fast (!) but both had 12 faults. A number of teams finished on 12 faults and Delamere was 2 seconds from getting rosettes, finishing 7th out of 13 teams.

All the team members enjoyed the day and helped each other when needed and are looking forward to the summer competitions.

Area 20 dressage October

At the end of October Delamere Forest Riding Club hosted the Area 20 Winter dressage competition. A sub committee of Sue Lea, Judith, Liz Peter and Mary worked very hard in the preceding months to try to ensure that the competition ran smoothly, and I think that we were largely successful in this! Our thanks to Jane and Richard for the hire of the venue which with the recent work on both surfaces was first class .

The competition ran over the two days, on the Saturday the preliminary tests took place, we entered two teams and on the Saturday night we were in the happy position of first, thanks to Claire Godwin who completed a super test and won her class, and Holly returning after a year off on Flika, who was second in her class . Sadly neither Liz or Mary could find their form and failed to be placed on the Sunday, so that team finished second to Nantwich. Our other team of Claire Whitfield Ann Boothroyd, Elaine Reading and Enid Baines also did well, with some good tests and finished seventh. Both teams recorded their highest ever places in this competition, so well done to you all , and Pebble is sorry she was so rubbish.

Lincoln dressage

Wary of new rules about parking at Lincoln, the team members that could met up at a “greasy spoon “, near to the show ground on Friday afternoon. We then drove in in convoy and parked in a line cleverly leaving a space for Kim, who was still en route. Pete joined us and helped us put up the new event shelter, while the horses were made comfortable after their long journey. Sally arrived just in time , and we all enjoyed an excellent dinner together (thanks Bill) There were nine of us, team members helpers, and individual rider , so we put up our new banners and made our presence known !

Kim, Sally, Elaine and Holly were our riding test team, and all rode good tests on Saturday morning , the standard was very high as ever, 69.5% was only good enough for 11th place in Holly’s arena , Kim was 12th and Sally 13th , the team finished a commendable 11th. Clare riding as an individual was not placed either, but was pleased with how well Bob coped with his first major outing. Sally had also qualified as an individual to ride a novice test , and she finished first in her arena, which was a fantastic result. Unfortunately she missed her prize giving as she was riding in the “team of four “ Our four horses and riders rode a very good test (you can see the video at the AGM) ably commanded by Jo, but were unplaced.

Thanks to Jo who did her duty day for us at Lincoln. We all had a great time.

Llanymynech Area Horse Trials report – 2nd July

Our members endured yet another scorching hot day at Llanymynech last Saturday (2nd July) and where well dressed in purple ribbons on their return. The Senior Novice Team consisting of Jane Byrne, Ann Boothroyd and Fran McNicol all rode very competitively just being out of the individual placings but managing a team placing of 5th Place overall.
Our Intermediate competitors Jo Ellis and Chrissy Stanley also did well with Jo gaining great dressage score and double clear seeing her into 5th place missing 4th by a fraction of a second nearer optimum time.
Well done to all of our competitors and a special mention of thanks to Mary, Holly, Liz and Gary for all their help on the day which was very much appreciated.

Area SJ qualifier report June Denbigh

June 26th was a scorching hot day for the Area 20 Show Jumping Qualifier held near Denbigh with a beautiful view overlooking the Vale of Clwyd.  Our Style team of Jane Byrne, Alison Arden, Jo Ellis and Kim Lee went very well to be second with Alison also being second individual.  Unfortunately owing the number of teams entered they will not qualify for the Championships.  Jane then contested the Novice class with a good clear in the first round but a few faults in the second.  Alison, Jo and Kim made up a team of three for the Intermediate class over a course that made good use of the sloping ground.  Jo and Alison did good clears in the first round but faulted in the second, whilst Kim had a pole down in the first round then a super clear in the second.  So no more ribbons.  Our helpers of Clare Whitfield, Elaine Reading and Stacey Whitehead had very early starts to be there for 8.30 to do pole picking together.  Thank you Clare for also doing our declarations and handing out the numbers.

Dressage qualifier June report

Our Delamere dressage riders had a wonderful day at Stanthorne park Middlewich on 19th June. The novice team of Anne Boothroyd, Sarah Fletcher, Jane Byrne and Clare Whitfield all rode competitive tests and ended the day fourth overal . The open team of Kim Lee, Mary Bradbury, Liz Ford and Madelaine Davies did equally well, and also finished fourth. Madelaine also had a place in her medium test. Individually Sally Eagle finished first in her novice section and is Lincoln bound along with the riding test team of Sally again Elaine Reading, Holly Doyle and Kim, who also won her section . The team finished first, as did Clare riding as an individual this time. Finally Mary and Jo Hinnigan won the pairs dressage, Pebble and Blue saved their best ever dressage test for the day and so along with Jo Ellis who finished second in the medium we believe that seven horses may be Lincoln bound in September .

Special thanks to Paulette Anderson , Ali Arden and Emma Carr who helped on the day , and of course to Pete who seemed to organise the majority of a very enjoyable day. Mary Bradbury Chef D’equipe

FOTH qualifier Llanymynech 9th April

We had glorious weather at the team SJ/XC qualifier. The senior Novice team of Jo Ellis, Alison Arden, Cathy London and Jane Byrne came 5th out of 15 teams so big well done. The second team of Sally Eagle (a last minute replacement due to dropouts!), Grahame Sandlin and Anne Boothroyd had pretty good rounds too and enjoyed the day. Ellie Ebbitt once again won the Individual Junior Intermediate so well done Ellie and good luck for the finals in June. Peter Sandlin also had a good round in the senior Intermediate class. The junior pairs James and Richard Sandlin had a good ride and came 6th and the seniors Sally Eagle and Jane Byrne did two perfect dressing fences but over egged taking it steady after the too fast first rounds and came 4th out of 7. Big thanks to all helpers and organisers!
