Delamere Forest Riding Club was started 25 years ago by riders local
to Delamere Forest which lies between Chester and Northwich in Cheshire. We are a small friendly riding club with approximately 120 members
including a small junior membership. Many members are keen dressage
riders but we also hold training events, Show Jumping, X-Country, ODE & some showing classes.
Several members have been with us for years & some children have grown up with the Riding Club. Olympic rider Gary Parsonage started his competition career with Delamere Forest Riding Club.
We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs Area 20,
which covers part of Cheshire, North Wales, Mid Wales, Shropshire,
West Midlands and Staffordshire. We compete
in Area 20 competitions; winning teams & individuals
go on to compete at National Championships. Our Show Jumping
team have been National Champions and our Riding Test team have been
reserve champions.
We also encourage members
to attend social events. We hold
many training events in all disciplines for our members.
Our events are open to both members and non-members.

General DFRC rules
1. No horse under 4 may be entered in mounted competitions. 4 year olds may not jump in Open show-jumping classes or Open hunter trials/ODEs. No stallions are allowed at DFRC events.
2. Club points for dressage will be awarded, as per British Dressage rules, to members gaining places in dressage competitions in any one season. 1st placed member 6 points, 2nd 5 points down to 6th 1 point. Where there are less than 6 competitors, points will be awarded accordingly, e.g the winner of a 3 horse class receives 3 points.
3. No horse may be ridden competitively by more than one rider in the same class.
4. Only two entries will be accepted per competitor at winter indoor dressage competitions.
5. Show jumping -There will be one timed jump-off.
6. Cross country - Competitors may finish the course if eliminated, but MUST give way to avoid obstructing a following competitor. They must move on to the next fence after three refusals.
7. Everyone mounted at a DFRC event MUST wear a properly adjusted riding hat conforming to a minimum standard of EN1384. BRC recommends PAS015 which provides the greatest protection. All hats prefixed SEI/ASTM are acceptable.
8. Everyone riding at a DFRC hunter trial and on the cross-country phase of a One Day Event, MUST wear a body protector fitted and worn as per the manufacturers instructions. For other jumping classes body protectors may be worn either under or over show jackets.
9. Correct dress must be worn for each class.
10. Saddlery - Riding Clubs’ Rule Books. Saddlery and gadgets which are not allowed for the tests or official competitions may not be worn when schooling, exercising, riding in or warming up on the day of the competition, under penalty of elimination. Lunging on side reins, the carrying of a whip and wearing of boots and bandages is permitted during this period.
HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY FOR DFRC EVENTS
1. Health and Safety is the responsibility of all participants and visitors to an event.
2. The Organiser has overall responsibility, and will endeavour to ensure that the event is organised in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
3. Competitors, visitors and stall holders, are equally responsible for ensuring that:
- They conduct themselves so that they do not put themselves or others at risk.
- Access to and egress from the site are kept unobstructed at all times.
- All accidents, however minor, are reported to a committee member at the time of happening.
- They will respond to any request from an organiser or member of the committee where health and safety are concerned.
4. If any participant has a concern about a health and safety matter which may have been overlooked, please report it immediately to a committee member.
5. Emergencies:
- Emergency services must have access to all parts of the event site at all times and members of the public must not park vehicles so as to obstruct access.
- First Aid points are clearly marked.
- In the case of an emergency, members of the public should contact the nearest official, or dial 999 on the nearest telephone.
6. Horses can easily be frightened and can be dangerous. Members of the public are requested to keep clear from horse lanes/areas and to avoid behaviour which might alarm horses, and riders are requested to keep horses out of pedestrian areas. Grooms and attendants must not obstruct riders whilst attending to horses.
7. Dogs must be kept under close control on leads at all times.
8. Cars and horse transport should be parked in the separately designated areas as indicated. (We suggest that competitors carry their tack with their horses to make things more convenient for themselves).
